I think this drawing is stunning.
More than that, though, is my reaction to it. I’m fascinated by this man’s face. I want to get to know him, talk to him, and hopefully, make him smile.

“The older I get, the more I see there are these crevices in life where things fall in and you just can’t reach them to pull them back out. So you can sit next to them and weep or you can get up and move forward. You have to stop worrying about who’s not here and start worrying about who is.” ~ Alex Witchel

“In terms of days and moments lived, you’ll never again be as young as you are right now, so spend this day, the youth of your future, in a way that deflects regret. Invest in yourself. Have some fun. Do something important. Love somebody extra. In one sense, you’re just a kid, but a kid with enough years on her to know that every day is priceless.” ~ Victoria Moran, Younger by the Day: 365 Ways to Rejuvenate Your Body and Revitalize Your Spirit

“It is lovely to meet an old person whose face is deeply lined, a face that has been deeply inhabited, to look in the eyes and find light there.” ~ John O-Donohue, Anam Cara: A Book of Celtic Wisdom

“I’ve enjoyed every age I’ve been and each has had its own individual merit. Every laugh line, every scar, is a badge I wear to show I’ve been present, the inner rings of my personal tree trunk that I display proudly for all to see. Nowadays, I don’t want a “perfect” face and body; I want to wear the life I’ve lived.” ~ Pat Benatar

“Happy.
I don’t mean to point out the obvious, but I’m going say it: you’re not going to live forever. Neither am I.
I don’t know what makes you smile, laugh, or feel good, but you deserve to be doing more of it. A lot more. In fact, you deserve to be so giddy your cheeks hurt.
And if for some reason, you aren’t happy today, then find someone to make happy.
And you will be.”

I’m not fond of the title of this portrait. I think the man looks distinguished, interesting, and wonderful. I think the portrait is wonderful, though.
I would love to MEET this man. He looks like he has a great sense of humor and loves to laugh. Doesn’t he have a wonderfully kind face?

I’m fascinated by people. Their faces, in particular, are wonderful. I find it hard not to stare when someone has an arresting face.
One time my husband and I were at an informal office party. I just couldn’t take my eyes off this one young man’s eyes. They were the prettiest eyes I’ve ever seen, before or since. He finally met my eyes, and I was embarrassed to be caught staring at him. Later I met his significant other, who was a friend and co-worker of my husband. I told her what I had done, apologizing for my rudeness. She laughed, saying she had done the same thing. :0)
People can be attractive, but the thing that gets my attention is character. It always shines through like a beacon.
I hope you find these faces as fascinating as I do. At least we can look our fill without being rude.
