Cute Trick-or-Treaters

I love to see how kids dress up for Halloween. I particularly like it when their parents get involved and there is creativity shown, rather than just going out and spending a lot of money on a costume.

I found these that I really liked. I hope you enjoy them, too.

I think this cute little one would have trouble actually trick-or-treating in this costume, but I love the creativity.

I love this one! He would have to wait ’til he got home to actually EAT any of the treats, but isn’t this a great costume?

Awwww!

Too cute, Raggedy Ann!

I like all of these, but I’m partial to the owl…

This one should win an award for creativity, and then the boy should be able to shed the penny (or, better yet, EAT it if it’s made of chocolate….) and have fun trick-or-treating.

TRICK OR TREAT!

Make me a child again just for to-night!

"Backward, turn backward,
O Time, in your flight
make me a child again
just for to-night!"
Elizabeth Akers Allen

Halloween is one of my favorite
holidays. Every year I would agonize
over what I would 'BE' on Halloween.
My mom would allow me to buy some stuff
for my 'costume,' but we never BOUGHT
one from the store. The result was
that I spent a LOT of time trying
to figure out what I should use to make
my idea for a costume 'bloom.'

In those days, I went Trick-or-Treating
with my friends as soon as
my mom figured people had had
time to get home from work and
eat their dinners. Then
we headed out in a group
 of 5 or 6 kids
and didn't return until
our bags were full, or we
 were completely
exhausted. I always came
 home half sick from
 eating much of my
'haul.' As soon as I
got home, I would STASH the rest so
my brother wouldn't find it.

What a magical time for
kids it was
then! I realize that
times have changed now,
but I'm really sorry.
Trick-or-treating just
isn't the same with
your mom holding
your hand, or following
behind you in the car.
It breaks my heart that kids
can't have a couple of hours
a year of total freedom
with their friends to
enjoy the whole idea of the scariness and fun.

My husband dressed up
in a really scary costume
one year when we were on
the 'giving' side of
Halloween. He put a
pillow on his upper
back and covered it
with burlap.
He had a really scary
rubber hairy mask.
When he went to the door,
the kids would shriek and run
away. Some of the braver
ones stayed long enough
to get candy. :0)
As the evening wore on,
more and more kids visited our house.
I think the word got around
about the 'scary monster' at our house.
My husband laughed and laughed.

The only time he didn't
was when a tiny
'tinkerbelle' came to
the door and started
to cry when she saw him.
He ripped off the mask
and burlap, showing
her the pillow,
and kneeling down
in front of her. She
smiled through her
tears and allowed
my husband to hug her.
Then she didn't want to leave! :0)

 I hope you're helping your
 children or grandchildren
 have a wonderful
 Halloween tonight.

 I wish I could be
a child again - just for tonite...

WHAT WILL YOU 'BE'?
