Hand-Painted-Gourd-Nativity-Scene

Does it seem a little strange to be showing you a Nativity scene in June?

Hand-Painted-Gourd-Nativity-Scene by Linda Faber

I’m proud to show you this Featured Piece of the Day on Creative Artworks!

Linda Faber made two Nativity Scenes from gourds and this is the only one left. There are nine gourds in the set, all of which were grown by Linda Faber. They then had to ‘cure’ for approximately one year before they were dry enough to be painted!

Each gourd is prepared for painting by hand – cleaned, sanded, then painted with acrylic paint. Polyurethane is used to add the shine, plus protection for the paint. Wonderful additions, such as knitted hats, wings, and hair are added to make this set  even more special.

The size of the pieces range from 7.5 to 10 inches tall. The width ranges from 4.5 to 5.5 inches. The baby is just a bit over 3 inches. 9 pieces in all. The bottom picture shows a closeup so you can see more of the detail. Exquisite detail and top quality workmanship!

Linda gave me my very own  gourd caroler several years ago. It has a knitted hat, knitted scarf, and is personalized with “Lewis”. I was afraid that it would be really fragile. I was delighted to discover it’s quite ‘hardy!’ It sits on my windowsill beside our dining table every year. My cat decided to look at things ‘up close and personal’ the first year, and knocked my caroler off. I was across the room at the time and gasped when it happened. The gourd BOUNCED on the floor and came through this with NO DAMAGE! I look forward to displaying her every year.

Your Christmas will never be the same once you add this exquisite Nativity scene to your collection. Imagine it on the mantle over your fireplace, on a buffet, or a wide window sill. You can almost hear the angel caroler singing!
